About JC-1

---

JC-1 is a ratiometric probe used in cell health and apoptosis applications to detect changes to the polarity of the mitochondrial membrane. As the mitochondrial membrane potential neutralizes, this dye shifts to a monomeric form with an emission peak at 520 nm (green). When the mitochondrial potential is healthy, the probe aggregates in the membrane causing a shift it its emission to 590 nm (orange).
